Starter Guide: The Basics!

Whenever you create a penguin, your penguin's name must be looked over by a Club Penguin worker and then accepted. If your penguin name is not accepted, your penguin's name in Club Penguin will be 'P' followed by a series of numbers. When you have created your penguin, you will be asked to activate it by clicking the activation link in the email sent to the email address you have created your penguin with. When you activate your penguin, you will be asked whether you want your penguin to be in Ultimate Safe Chat or Standard Safe Chat. With Ultimate Safe Chat, you are limited to only a few lines in Club Penguin in which are controlled by Club Penguin's Ultimate Safe Chat presets. With Standard Safe Chat, you are enabled to chat use the chat bar at the bottom of the screen when in-game to type what you please and broadcast it onto Club Penguin. You will also be asked whether you'd like to activate a membership onto your penguin or not. Memberships can be purchased in stores or at ClubPenguin.com/Membership. If you do not activate your penguin, the account you have created will be deleted in one hour. If you activate your penguin account, when you log into Club Penguin, you will be greeted by a tour guide to show you around the island a little bit.

During the tutorial, the tour guide will have you visit some of the island's most popular rooms; the Clothes Shop, the Pet Shop, and your igloo. Once you have visited each room, you will have the capability of grabbing three free rare items for completing the quests.

On the left-hand side of the chat bar, you will see the following buttons:

The first button shows a chat symbol. If you click it, you will be able to view the preset words and sentences made by Club Penguin for all users including the penguins who are not set to Safe Chat Only. The second button from the left allows you to use emotes in Club Penguin. The third button from the left allows you to control how your penguin sits in Club Penguin. You can also use your arrow keys to control how your penguin sits in-game. The fourth button from the left allows you to throw a snowball.

On the right-hand side of the chat bar, you will see the following buttons:

The first button on the right allows you to send whatever is typed up in the chat bar so it shows in-game. The second button on the right opens up your penguin's player card. The button will change to a star if your penguin is not a member. The third button on the right-hand side of the chat bar allows you to open up your buddy list. The fourth button on the right-hand side of the chat bar allows you to visit your igloo. Lastly, the fifth button on the right-hand side of the chat bar allows you to open up the settings. There you can see how many days old your penguin is, how many buddies you have on your buddy list, what server you are on and to mute the music playing in the background.

There are also special buttons on everyone's player cards. However, if you click on your own penguin, these buttons will not be available. You can only see the amount of coins that your penguin has, as well as a button for you to access your stamp book. Unlike normal penguin accounts, the island of Club Penguin is often visited by famous characters. On famous character player cards, you can only access a couple features in compare to a normal penguin's player card. In the image below, to the left is a normal penguin's player card, and to the right is a famous character's player card.

-- NORMAL PENGUIN'S PLAYER CARD --

1) Membership Badge: On everyone's player cards, you can view a membership badge in the upper left-hand corner. This badge symbolizes how long a penguin has been a member on the island. If a penguin is not a member, a star will be in the place of the membership badge. The highest ranking membership badge you can receive is a badge with five bars and a star (as shown on the famous character's player card.) Each time you activate a membership, your membership badge will receive a new bar until you have reached the highest ranking badge.

2) Adding: This button allows you to send a friend request to a penguin. If the buddy accepts your friend request, the penguin will be added to your buddy list. If you are friends with a penguin on the island, and wish to remove the penguin from your buddy list, the icon will have a red 'X' over the buddy symbol. You can click it to remove a buddy.

3) Locations: This button allows you to find a buddy when he/she is online on the same server as you. When clicking this button, it will tell you which room he/she is in. This feature is only accessible when a penguin is your buddy on the island.

4) Igloos: This button allows you to visit a penguin's igloo. To visit the penguin's igloo, simply click the button. This feature is only accessible when a penguin is your buddy on the island, or the penguin's igloo is open to everyone on the island map.

5) Mail: This button allows you to send a postcard to a penguin. This feature is accessible to everyone, as long as the penguin's mailbox is not full.

6) Stamps: This button allows you to check out a penguin's stamp book. To access their stamp book, click the icon as shown in the image above. This feature is accessible to everyone.

7) Ignoring: This button allows you to ignore a player. When you ignore a player, chat messages he/she sends as well as other actions that include adding, or emotes will not be shown on your screen when in-game. This feature is accessible to everyone.

8) Reporting: This button allows you to report a player. When a player is breaking the Club Penguin Rules, you can send a report to a moderator with details on which rule the penguin is breaking for the moderator to review. This feature is accessible to everyone.

-- FAMOUS CHARACTER'S PLAYER CARD --

1) Custom Player Cards: When you meet a famous character on the island, you may notice something different about their player cards. They have custom player cards! These player cards show a well designed image of what the character looks like. This feature is only accessible to famous characters.

2) Adding: Much like a normal penguin's player card, you can click this button to add a famous character. Unlike a normal penguin, famous characters do not have a buddy limit and can add everyone who sends them a request. All players can add a famous character.

3) Giveaway Backgrounds: The last feature on a famous character's player card is this button. When clicking it, you will have the capability of receiving a free giveaway background from them to prove that you met them on the island. Normal penguins can not give away backgrounds to penguins, but all penguins can receive a background from a famous character.
